This antique settee is a fine example of antique restoration by Brenton's - with both refinishing and reupholstery.
The refinishing process begins with the careful stripping of the old finish, gluing of loose joints and other structural repairs. Painstakingly, missing pieces are expertly replaced, cracks filled, broken parts repaired, veneers replaced and repairs are to nicks, scrapes and scars in the wood finish. Color is applied and sealed, followed by more sanding. Finally, several coats of lacquer are applied to the selected finish. During the refinishing process, you may wish to change the colour of your wood furniture. For example, oak can be stained to match any finish such as ebonizing, pickling and bleaching. You can choose a stain from a full palette of natural stains, coloured finishes and special effects.
When finished, your furniture has now been restored to a factory-like finish.
Brenton’s are also the regional experts in antique furniture restoration.
Period pieces require special expertise and attention. As far as possible, antique finishes are preserved to retain their maximum value. When older pieces need to be refinished, Brenton’s craftsmen create “new” antiqued finishes. For upholstered antique chairs and settees, Brenton’s offers a special selection of “antique reproduction” fabrics that authentically replicate the fabrics that were originally used. The result – restoration of valuable and cherished heirloom pieces that you can enjoy for many years to come.
This "before and after" example is not unusual for Brenton's when it comes to antique restoration.
